Binary Interaction Algorithms for the Simulation of Flocking and Swarming Dynamics

چکیده
Abstract. Microscopic models of flocking and swarming takes in account large numbers of interacting individuals. Numerical resolution of large flocks implies huge computational costs. Typically for N interacting individuals we have a cost of O(N2). We tackle the problem numerically by considering approximated binary interaction dynamics described by kinetic equations and simulating such equations by suitable stochastic methods. This approach permits to compute approximate solutions as functions of a small scaling parameter ε at a reduced complexity of O(N) operations. Several numerical results show the efficiency of the algorithms proposed.

A Gravitational Search Algorithm-Based Single-Center of Mass Flocking Control for Tracking Single and Multiple Dynamic Targets for Parabolic Trajectories in Mobile Sensor Networks
Developing optimal flocking control procedure is an essential problem in mobile sensor networks (MSNs). Furthermore, finding the parameters such that the sensors can reach to the target in an appropriate time is an important issue. This paper offers an optimization approach based on metaheuristic methods for flocking control in MSNs to follow a target. We develop a non-differentiable optimizati...
متن کاملMolecular dynamics simulation of a binary mixture lubricant for use in hard disk interfaces
In Hard Disk Drives (HDD), it is necessary to decrease the Flying Height (FH) between the head and the disk (currently, FH is around 3-5 nm) so as to increase recording densities. Retaining the solid lubricant has become a difficult proposition owing to intermittent contact between the surfaces. ZTMD and Z are used as solid lubricant to lubricate these interfaces. In this paper, the behavior of...

متن کاملTowards Emergent Design: Analysis, Fitness and Heterogeneity of Agent Based Models Using Geometry of Behavioral Spaces Framework
Detection and analysis of collective behavior in natural and artificial systems is a difficult task which is commonly delegated to a human observer. We present a statistical framework to automatically detect emergent, collective behavior of agents in agent based simulations which exhibit swarming and flocking behavior. Our tunable, transitional-, rotational, and scaleinvariant framework – geome...
متن کاملThe Resilience of a Swarm Ecosystem Under Environmental Variation
Evolving swarms can be used both to solve real-world problems and to study biological and ecological phenomena. We simulated an evolving swarm of birds under three different types of climate-change-related environmental variation a temperate environment becoming tropical, a temperate enviroment becoming a desert, and a tropical environment becoming a desert. We found that desertification increa...
